SDA Shrimp Talk Symposium: AI in Supply Chain – Beyond Concepts, Into Deep Applications
Just wrapped up! The SDA closed-door symposium, themed “Deciding the Future: AI Reshapes the Supply Chain,” was successfully held in Shanghai on March 8th. This gathering brought together top experts and business leaders from various fields for a profound exchange of insights, collaboration strategies, and value creation, all centered on the real-world application and future trends of AI in supply chains.
Anchoring Direction: Seeking Insight, Synergy, and Value in a New Era
In her welcome address, Ms. Pamela Lin, SDA Chairperson and Logistics Director at LVMH Beauty, noted we are in an era of rapid technological evolution. The “emergence phenomena” of AI is fundamentally reshaping industrial structures and has become core to future corporate competitiveness. She framed the symposium around three critical questions: the boundaries of human insight and accountability facing AI-driven outcomes; how zero-carbon goals and intelligence achieve deep synergy via AI; and how business leaders can reposition themselves to remain indispensable in this fast-changing landscape.

The event was moderated by Mr. Huang Wei, Head of Global Supply Chain Sustainability at Schneider Electric. He emphasized that AI is fundamentally reshaping how we understand, design, and operate supply chains. The central challenge for all, he noted, is harnessing this power to build genuine resilience, efficiency, and sustainability.

Disrupting Perception: When “Math is Dead,” How Does AI Define New Logic?
Mr. Yan Bojun, Founder of TXYZ and a popular science writer with millions of followers, delivered a thought-provoking keynote. He argued that traditional mathematical formulas can only model simple rules under idealized conditions, hitting a wall when faced with the friction-filled, non-linear, and unpredictable chaos of real-world supply chains. With the leap in computing power, AI, through end-to-end pattern recognition, breaks free from traditional formulas, offering a new path to solve complex real-world problems.

Crossing Boundaries: Integrating Climate Lighthouse with Zero-Carbon China
Mr. Shi An, President of Rockwell Automation (China), stressed in his speech that the deep integration of AI and manufacturing requires thinking beyond the “four walls” of a factory. He connected three national strategies—”Digital China,” “Zero-Carbon China,” and “Climate Lighthouse”—highlighting that as China is now home to nearly half of the world’s Lighthouse Factories, companies must develop a full-chain vision encompassing upstream, downstream, and even cross-industry collaboration. This is essential to drive high-quality development and translate the fusion of green and smart technologies into global competitiveness.

Evolving Resilience: AI Reshapes the Foundational Logic of Supply Chains
Mr. Wang Jideng, the first AI Expert at Huawei, analyzed the evolution of global supply chain competitiveness driven by AI. He pointed out that the old supply chain logic is collapsing due to global black swan events and geopolitics. The future core of supply chain competition is shifting from “cost-first and efficiency-maximization” to “intelligent resilience.” AI is reshaping the foundational logic, pushing companies toward near-real-time production response, data-driven risk decision-making, and upstream-downstream ecosystem collaboration.

Panel Discussion: The Future Role of Procurement and Supply Chain Under AI Synergy
The culminating panel, moderated by Ms. Selina Qu, Chairperson of the SDA Electronics Council and Strategic Lead at Merck China, featured a deep dive on “How AI Changes Individuals and Enterprises”:
- Yan Bojun: AI won’t narrow cognitive gaps; it will accelerate divergence. True core competency lies in deep thinking and the ability to ask questions that “peel the onion layer by layer.”
- Shi An: Data must be transformed into assets. Companies need a three-pronged strategy—strategic, organizational, and team—using AI as a “biologic drug” to unlock potential.
- Echo (PurCotton): The foundation for successful AI implementation is data governance. Faced with technological waves, executives must not only have critical thinking but also adopt a mindset of “don’t wait, just become.”
- Wang Jideng: AI’s impact is like a tsunami. The future workplace and society will see a “K-shaped” divergence. Only those who position themselves at the top of the value chain and leverage tools effectively will avoid being swept away.

Conclusion: Seeing the Future in Consensus
A clear message emerged from the symposium: traditional linear thinking is broken when facing real-world complexity. AI is not just a problem-solving tool but a core engine for reshaping supply chain resilience and leading zero-carbon synergy. To seize opportunities in an uncertain landscape, supply chain leaders must continuously evolve, complementing human and machine strengths.
SDA remains committed to working with industry peers to build a secure, open, and profound platform for exchange, exploring cutting-edge paths toward a sustainable future.
